As you can see by the title, blue decor is my current obsession. I’m not really sure why, it isn’t even my favorite color, but it seems to be the driving force of this forgotten living room makeover (insert shoulder shrug). Sometimes a project takes on a life of it’s own, so who am I to slow it down when it seems to be working out for the best?! Even my inspiration board had a lot of blue in it.
Welcome back to week 5 of the One Room Challenge organized and hosted by Linda from Calling it Home and media partner House Beautiful. If you are just catching up, here is where you can see Week 1: The Plan, Week 2: Painting Doors & Trim, Week 3: Surviving a DIY Reno, and Week 4: Board and Batten Solo in Just 3 Days.
DON’T FORGET TO PIN FOR LATER!
So, back to the whole blue decor thing. The great thing about decor accessories is that they can be changed (usually inexpensively) whenever you want. Next month if I am not feeling the whole blue decor thing, I can just switch it up. Maybe with yellow, which is my favorite color.
Being able to change your accessories on a whim or seasonally is why it can be important to select neutral colors for the big stuff. The walls. The large furniture pieces. This post, Expert Tips for Adding Color to Your Space, should point you in the right direction if you are lost when comes to deciding on a color scheme for your home.
This week I did some styling in the forgotten living room, that is when I realized that blue was everywhere. Let me show you…just a few sneak peaks, you can’t see the whole space until reveal week which will be November 16th (that just happens to be my birthday!!)
I hung my DIY woven wall art, you can make your own with this tutorial.
I hung my gallery wall, I just need one more thing to make it complete…more shopping, woe is me! This piece of art was going to get a makeover, but after laying the new rug I realized it went really well with it and added to the overall eclectic vibe I was going for. One less project to do!
I styled the shelf that my hubby made. Originally it wasn’t coming back into the space, but it looks really good now against the Notre Dame paint color from Valspar. Plus, he made it with his own two hands and it really is a statement piece.
I used to collect bird figurines and this is one of two little guys that made the cut when I had a garage sale this year. I also added these great ceramic urns my daughter got me for my birthday last year.
I ordered these pillows from Hayneedle. While scrolling through all their pillows, imagine my delight when I found the exact ones from my inspiration board!!!! Although they aren’t an official sponsor of mine for this challenge, the free shipping coupon they offered me helped seal the deal when buying these little beauties!
Last but not least…THIS RUG!!!! All the BLUE!!! I purchased this rug from Wayfair. They aren’t a sponsor of mine either, but their customer service reps are great and shipping is very fast! Our two oldest granddaughters stayed all night and I think they like it too. It is so soft, I just want to lay on the floor all day!
Now just so you don’t think we are buried in all shades of blue, this is happening this week! I am going to be painting upholstery on two chairs (the reupholstery job on the wing back didn’t happen because my upholsterer was booked. Some things you just don’t DIY). Two of my fellow guest participants, Susie from the Chelsea Project and Ariel from PMQ for TWO have inspired me to try this…fingers crossed! My favorite color…YELLOW!!!!
I will let you know how it turns out next week along with how I change an outdated piece of artwork into a mirror without buying mirrored glass. Gasp! Yes it is magic (insert winky emoji)
