Decorating on a budget can be hard. You want all the things that catch your eye and your budget is screaming NOOOO! Sconces, or library lights as they are sometimes called, can be one of those items. Friends, they are expensive, at least the ones I like are (go figure). So today I am here to share how I gave two ordinary chrome sconces a budget makeover to give them a high end look.

You may remember my mood board for our master bedroom makeover. It included a sconce that I wanted to put on either side of the bed to eliminate the need for lamps on our bedside tables. Extra room is always the goal in a small space.
As you can see, while this sconce is amazing and just the look I am going for, at $119 a piece it’s just a tad over budget. DIYing was the best solution for someone that needs instant gratification like this girl does.

Even though it wasn’t required by this brand, I want to tell you a little bit abut them. Wikibuy is a site where you can find all different products (not just home decor) and when you add the extension to your browser it will keep you updated on price changes and possible coupons or discounts on the products you are looking to buy. They partner with other brands to find you the best prices out there. Who doesn’t like to save money? I am currently receiving updates on prices for a wallpaper I am watching. The Budget Makeover
Here are the sconces I picked out for our master bedroom. They are chrome (not my jam) and they have a glass globe that the jury is still out on.
Supplies you will need to do this project
2 chrome sconces via Wikibuy…these came from Walmart who is one of their brand partners.
1 can Krylon Fusion spray paint in metallic copper
1 can Krylon Fusion spray paint in matte black
painters tape
I kept the bag over the cords to make sure I didn’t get any paint on them and then I started by spraying the parts of the sconces that I wanted to be copper. I didn’t tape anything else off because I knew the matte black would cover the copper easily.
I wanted to use brass spray paint for these sconces, but it is really hard to tell what color the paint will be from the lids of the cans and I just didn’t trust that I would get the right finish. So copper it is. I actually am loving how it looks with the matte black.
Once the copper was dry (I let it sit over night just to be sure) I taped the copper parts with painter’s tape and sprayed the rest of it with Krylon’s matte black. Matte black is now my new favorite spray paint color and I am looking for all the things to paint with it.
Taping around that black knob on the top was no small feat let me tell ya, but totally worth the aggravation to get the look I wanted.
The jury is still out on the glass globes. What do you think? Leave them or buy black ones? I would love to have your opinion, please share in the comments below!
DON’T FORGET TO PIN FOR LATER!
That’s it for this week’s progress of our master bedroom refresh. Stay tuned for more updates as the budget allows.
Until next time,
Susanne
