Lately I have been drawn more and more to modern design. I love the minimalist look of the furniture and the clean no nonsense feel of dark moody paint color (maybe I am just tired of all the clutter around the house). My hubby is not a fan of modern style furniture so I can’t go out and buy all new, which leaves me with adding some modern accessories…and PAINT.
Using paint in your home is the easiest (and least inexpensive) way to add design style. It is also the easiest thing to change if you end up not liking it or decide you want something different later. My hubby swears that every time I put paint on a roller our square footage is shrinking, he is such a funny guy.
You may know this, if you have been around here for awhile, my design style is an ever evolving animal. There are so many things that I love about different design styles, that I can’t commit to just one style. Thank goodness the design world dubbed that “eclectic” style or everyone would think I was just a hot mess.
I wouldn’t have dark moody paint color on every wall in the house, but I can think of a few places where dark colored paint would definitely add a bit of modern style to our builder grade ranch modular. To help myself decide just exactly what I wanted to do, I took to the internet and looked for inspiration. Here is what I found… This post contains affiliate links, read my full disclosure HERE.
Dark Moody Paint Color on Window Frames
New black frame windows can quite pricey, especially if you have big gorgeous windows like these. Jessica from Jessica Devlin Designs decided to go with the budget friendly version and painted these. The contrast of the black against the white walls makes a bold statement that really ups the wow factor of this room. They make a wonderful backdrop for the amazing decor she added during the One Room Challenge this spring.
Dark Moody Paint Color on Walls
This monochromatic master bedroom boasts modern style and the architectural detail added to the walls and painted this dark moody color is a show stopper. Amanda from A Crafted Passion took an architectural detail that would normally be considered traditional and gave it modern style with this paint color.
Dark Moody Paint Color on Doors
Lindi from Love Create Celebrate has taken a barn and turned it into a modern style home along with her husband. There is a lot of modern style goodness going on in this entryway, but that door is AAAmazing. The dark color contrasting with the floor and the wall make this a stand out modern design. This goes to show that any house can be made over with modern design. There may hope for our little ranch modular after all.
Dark Moody Paint Color on Furniture
Painting furniture is an easy way to add modern style to your home. The contrast of the natural wood drawers against the black painted frame makes this dresser pop with modern style. Lindi from Love Create Celebrate does it again with this modern dresser makeover.
Dark Moody Paint Color on Accessories
I promise I am not some creepy blog stalker, Love Create Celebrate is full of all sorts of modern design ideas. You really need to go check it out! Like these cute and easy diy painted vases. A simple project that delivers a big dose of modern design style using paint.
So, there you have it. Ways to add modern design style, using dark moody paint color, to any space. I have a dark gray picked out and am considering painting the doors in the family room and the baseboard and trim with it.
